A look at Workday training and communications in 2023
Our Workday training, communications, and resources are critical to ensuring our community has the information they need to feel informed, prepared, and empowered to use Workday. The continued improvement of these resources is the primary goal of the Modernization Change and Communications team.
In January 2024, we’re launching the Workday Training and Communications Survey. This survey provides an opportunity for WSU employees to submit feedback and insight regarding how they currently use Workday, as well as related training and communications resources.
Before you take the survey, we’d like to thank the WSU community for engaging with, sharing, and helping shape Workday resources by looking back at 2023 in training and communications.
Training and resources
In 2023, we aimed to improve and enhance our existing Workday training materials and provide new resources requested by the WSU community, for example the inaugural Elevating Cougs conference. Below is a recap of Workday training resources as of December 2023.

- There are currently 460 guides available in the Workday Knowledge Base, including 60 news guides added in 2023.
- All 460 guides were updated at least once in 2023. These updates reflect functionality and configuration changes, as well as improvements to formatting and guide usability.
- The WSU community viewed reference guides 114,662 times in 2023.
- Among the top-viewed guides were Create, Approve, Change, or Cancel an Expense Report, Enter and Correct Time, and Complete Payment Elections for Direct Deposit.

Communications
In 2023, we worked to reach more WSU staff and faculty, and connect them with essential Workday news and resources. Here’s a look at our primary communications channels:
- The Workday Digest and Modernization news page
- In the last 6 months of 2023, an average of 2,295 Digest readers engaged with content in the Digest each month.
- 1,115 more readers engaged with the Digest per month this year, compared to the last six months of 2022.
- 211 articles were published on the Modernization news page in 2023—an increase of 42 posts compared to 2022.
- The top-viewed news post of the year was the November Outage Known Issues post, with 5,927 visits.
- Elevating Cougs Newsletter
- We created the Elevating Cougs Newsletter to provide information and access to conference resources, registration, and more.
- 25 news posts provided information related to Elevating Cougs.
- Among the top-visited Elevating Cougs news posts were Elevating Cougs: Know before you go!, Workday Success Stories: Workday makes planning easier for WSU departments, and Workday Success Stories: WSU is a leading voice in conversations about Workday for higher education.
Reviewing how WSU employees access and engage with Workday training and communications helps us understand how effective these resources are. In 2024, we’re striving to make Workday training and communications even more accessible and useful.
The 2024 Workday Training and Communications Survey will be used to inform the planning and development of Workday training and communications for 2024 and beyond. We encourage all WSU employees who use Workday to submit their response here. We look forward to hearing from you.
We continue to provide essential Workday training, news, and resources via the Workday Knowledge Base, Modernization website, and Workday Digest. If you have questions about accessing these platforms, reach out at the Workday Service Desk.
