Elevating Cougs for managers: at a glance

Managers and supervisors at WSU perform a wide range of activities to help ensure their teams are successful at work, including:

  • Managing and approving employees’ time and absence
  • Approving travel and related expenditures
  • Prioritizing and balancing their team’s workload
  • Leading their team through change
  • Facilitating conversations and resolving conflict

Research included in the Myers-Briggs Conflict at Work report shows that managers spend over 4 hours, on average, dealing with conflict, and that poor communication is the leading cause of conflict at work. If you’re a manager or supervisor, developing your technical and leadership skills are key to improving your team’s effectiveness, reducing conflict, and improving job satisfaction for yourself and your team.

The 2023 Elevating Cougs conference offers managers the opportunity to develop both technical and soft skills and help them excel in their leadership duties through the Workday Success Stories and Leading as a Coug tracks.

The Workday Success Stories track offers opportunities to expand on your knowledge of performing managers’ tasks in Workday, including:

  • Managing Payroll cutoff dates
  • Understanding Delegations
  • Navigating Workday like a pro

The Leading as a Coug track focuses on developing leadership skills for managers and supervisors, and features sessions focused on:

  • Emotionally intelligent leadership
  • Team development
  • Managing conflict and addressing difficult behavior
  • Proposing and managing change

Managers and supervisors can get started now by registering for the Elevating Cougs conference and exploring sessions in both tracks in the conference schedule. They can also review key Workday training for managers on the Modernization Website.
