Embracing change in the workplace

In recent years, WSU employees have faced significant change in their daily work environments. These include large-scale institutional changes, such as the switch to Workday and the impacts of COVID-19, and smaller changes, such as those that come with the bi-annual Workday Feature Releases.

Change can be uncomfortable, but learning to navigate change as part of our regular work day can lessen the impact and help us adopt new ways of working more easily. Embracing change starts with shifting our mindset, and while it can be intimidating, it’s how we innovate and grow.

The Elevating Cougs Conference offers sessions for both employees and leaders focused on developing change management skills. Attendees will learn methods and discover resources for handling change at both a personal and organizational level, embracing change as an opportunity to learn new skills, improve processes, and become more efficient.

The Developing as a Coug track includes opportunities for employees to develop their personal change management skillsets. Sessions in this track focus on:

  • Ways to approach change with confidence, flexibility, and acceptance
  • Dealing with the challenging effects of change
  • Managing change as an individual and as part of a team

The Leading as a Coug track offers managers, supervisors, and other leaders the chance to learn more about how to lead through change, including:

  • Proposing and planning change
  • Leading through the challenging aspects of change such as resistance to change
  • Building positive work relationships and leading with emotional intelligence

It’s easier to embrace change when we feel prepared for it. While it can feel tough to keep up, there are proven methods to prepare for changes of all sizes. Want to get started now? Here’s how:

Since Workday’s launch, the WSU community has continued to make changes to improve the system and processes we use on a daily basis. By keeping their minds open and inviting innovation, Cougs have collaborated to develop solutions to key issues. Check out our Workday Success Stories series to learn how these changes have measurably improved the way we work at WSU.
