How to enter a personal holiday for workers with shifts that cross over midnight

We’ve created a new reference guide on how HR Partners may enter a personal holiday for employees who work over midnight during their shift.

Generally, personal holidays must be used in a single day or shift; employees cannot break a personal holiday into multiple days or hours. Validations are in place in Workday to prevent employees from entering only a partial personal holiday. However, some employees may work night shifts that occur over midnight, with a single shift technically occurring over two dates.

In the instance an employee wishes to use their personal holiday during a night shift that crosses over midnight, two distinct blocks of time off must be entered on the absence calendar. Therefore, an HR Partner must enter the personal holiday on their behalf.

This new guide explains how HR Partners can enter a personal holiday on behalf of an employee with overnight shifts that cover midnight.
