Updates to Bereavement Leave and Emergency Leave

We’ve made some changes to how Bereavement Leave and Emergency Leave are entered in Workday to reduce errors in time entry totals and calculations in Payroll.

What’s changing

  • Bereavement Leave and Emergency Leave can now be entered by hours instead of days.
  • Bereavement Leave and Emergency Leave can now be tied to a worker’s specific position.
  • For overtime eligible employees, requests for Bereavement Leave and Emergency Leave must now be entered through the Absence Calendar in Workday instead of the Time Calendar.

This change was effective on November 1, 2021.

Action needed: There is no action needed for any past or future time off relating to Bereavement or Emergency Leave.

Note: The policy for when and how long these leaves can be used has not changed. Please refer to the BPPM for policy on Bereavement Leave for CS employees and Emergency Leave for AP employees, the Faculty Manual for Emergency Leave for Faculty, or the respective contracts for Bargaining Unit employees.
