September Feature Release recap

Workday issues two major updates, called “Feature Releases,” per year. The second Feature Release of 2024, also called “R2,” took place September 21-22.

This Feature Release included predominantly behind-the-scenes system improvements and enhancements, as well as several improvements to the Workday user interface and select HR processes.

Read more about these Feature Release updates that are now in effect below:

User Interface improvements:

  • New Error Banner for modals:

When submitting a form without data in the required fields, the modal will highlight the fields with a red border and open a red bar highlighting the number of errors and a “View All” button to view the errors.

When selecting a link from the View All list of errors, the error banner will close and the field with the selected error will now be selected and ready for data entry.

An example of the new error messaging style is on the Absence Request modal. When submitting the time off request without entering a start or end date, the modal will show an error. Selecting “Error: Start Time” from the list of errors takes the user to the Start Time field ready for them to enter the appropriate time.

  • Enhanced sub-tab design:

The updated tab style reduces gaps and height, adds visual contrast, and improves framing, enhancing accessibility and clarity, and expanding the usable space. A blue underscore indicates the active main tab, while a gray border highlight indicates the sub tab. The “More” menu now displays only the overflow tabs instead of all tabs.

  • Benefits elections now shown as card in profile:

When viewing Benefits elections from an employee’s profile page, the information is now shown in a card format to match the visuals in the Benefits, Pay, and Compensation hub. The functionality remains the same.

Select HR process improvements:

  • Employee Performance Reviews autosave:

Prior to the 2024R2 Workday Release, a Save For Later button was available in Employee Performance Reviews. This process will now autosave every 90 seconds. There is also a Save button available to ensure no data is lost when leaving the process.

  • Resume bundling limit:

Prior to the 2024R2 Workday Release, there was a limit on the number of resumes that could be bundled at once. This limit has been removed.

Reference Guides have been updated to reflect any changes associated with the adoption of these new features.
