A look at Workday training and communications in 2024
Workday training, communications, and resources are critical to ensuring our community has the information they need to feel informed, prepared, and empowered to use Workday. The continued improvement of these resources is the primary goal of the Modernization Change and Communications team. Learn more about the enhancements made to WSU Workday resources in 2024, along with improvements planned for the coming year, below.
Highlights from 2024: Modernization site updates, reference guide enhancements, Workday Quick Tips, and more
In 2024, we implemented a variety of improvements to Workday support materials and communications based on feedback collected from the Workday Training & Communication Survey. These include:
- Modernization website updates: The Modernization website is one of the most important platforms providing Workday resources, with an average of 13,000 visits each month. In 2024, we worked to improve the website by implementing a series of enhancements to make finding the information and resources employees need quicker and easier. These changes were made to the home page and all 7 “Workday for…” training pages.
- New “Workday Essentials” page: We also introduced a new Workday Essentials page, featuring key resources and guides related to delegation, security, Workday navigation, ways to find resources and seek support, and more.
- Quick Tips and support within Workday: We began launching Quick Tips, in-process help text windows that provide guidance and links to resources specific to a process that can be accessed while completing that process in Workday. Quick Tips are now available for seven business processes in Workday. For a complete list of these processes, as well as instructions on how to use Quick Tips, visit this reference guide.
- Enhancements to Workday reference guides: Workday reference guides are viewed around 9,000 times each month. In 2024, we updated 201 existing guides, and created 62 brand new ones. We also introduced enhanced formatting and additional content that makes it easier to navigate a guide, understand who a guide is for, and what information is available within a guide. Learn more about these changes in this article.
- Elevating Cougs 2024: The Elevating Cougs conference continued for the second year, and welcomed 830 WSU employees for two days of peer-led learning, featuring 51 sessions and 72 speakers, the majority of whom are WSU employees. Read more about what Workday users learned at this year’s conference.
Roadmap for 2025: Enhancing accessibility, increasing in-Workday support, and optimizing communications
The Change and Communications team has outlined a variety of key goals for improving Modernization and Workday support resources in 2025. These goals focus on the continued improvement of accessibility and ease of use within resources for all Workday users, and working to reach even more WSU employees with the Workday support and information they need. These goals include:
- Increasing in-context help within Workday: Through Quick Tips and other features offered by Workday, we plan to expand the amount of support for business processes available directly within the Workday system. These features help employees save time and get the help and information they need without having to navigate outside of the process they’re performing.
- Continued enhancements to reference guides, with an emphasis on accessibility: In 2025, we’ll continue to convert reference guides within the Workday Knowledge Base to the new and improved layout we launched in 2024. We’ll also begin introducing enhancements to reference guides to improve their accessibility for WSU employees using assistive technologies. Learn more about these upcoming accessibility enhancements in this article.
- Reviewing and updating Modernization site content: In 2025, we’ll perform a review of the content currently available on the Modernization website, with the goal of updating and cleaning up out-of-date information.
- Optimizing communications and outreach: It’s critical that no WSU employee feels disconnected from the Workday information and support they need. By assessing our current communications channels, we aim to find ways to improve our communications strategies to connect even more WSU Workday users with relevant Workday resources and news.
- Elevating Cougs 2025: The Elevating Cougs conference will return for a third year, featuring an all-new track of Workday sessions covering key functional and technical topics.
Throughout the year, we’ll continue to provide updates on our progress toward implementing these goals for Workday training and communications via the Training news page on the Modernization website and in the Workday Digest.
