Accessibility in Workday & WSU Workday support materials

Accessibility, ease of understanding, and usability are essential when it comes to the digital assets Modernization creates to aid WSU’s Workday users. Modernization continues to strive toward ensuring all reference and support materials are accessible to employees.

To help WSU employees learn more about the accessibility features we use in Workday reference guides, as well as how to use the accessibility features and assistive technologies available within the Workday system itself, we’ve created a new guide called Accessibility and Usability in the Workday Reference Guides. This guide is now available within the Workday Service Desk and under the new “Accessibility Features in Workday and the Reference Guides” section on the Workday for New & Current Employees training page.

In addition to outlining how WSU reference guides are structured and may be used, this reference guide also provides instructions on how to access the Accessibility Interaction Overview task within Workday, which provides guidance on navigating Workday using assistive technologies within the system. Key Workday accessibility features include:

  • Screen reader support.
  • Focus indication and keyboard support for non-mouse users.
  • Accessible color and contrast.

Learn more about the ways Workday’s accessibility standards and the company’s approach to accessibility in this Workday article.

In 2025, Modernization will implement a variety of updates to reference guides to further support accessibility in compliance with university, state, and federal web accessibility standards. In the coming months, the following changes will be gradually introduced to reference guides:

  • Standardized, accessible terminology/phrasing across all materials.
  • Updated, standardized alt text and captioning for images and videos.
  • Added elements to reference guide html to assist those using screen readers to navigate pages.
  • Formatting updates to some headings and help text to support clearer context on reference guide content and navigation.

Ensuring Workday support materials are accessible to all WSU employees is of the utmost importance to Modernization. Throughout 2025, we will continue to provide updates on our efforts to improve accessibility across WSU Workday support materials and reference guides in the Workday Digest. We welcome all questions and feedback regarding accessibility at the Workday Service Desk.
