CCZ cost center hierarchy receives updates to coding

The CCZ is an alternative cost center hierarchy designed to assist in reporting across the WSU system, regardless of campus or location. It helps connect similar activities across the WSU system and security roles are not assigned, nor is it intended to reflect ownership of funds. Learn more about how and where the CCZ is used in this guide.

Over the past few years, we’ve partnered with Institutional Research and the community to gather feedback and improve the CCZ. As a result of this work, the original numbering structure of the hierarchy no longer accommodates our activities, requiring the addition of new codes to serve our needs.

Rather than a 6 digit alpha-numeric code (CCZ100), we are adding a digit to give us the flexibility we need (CCZ1000). With this change, existing codes will also be updated. We plan to minimize the impact by incorporating the existing code into the new structure. For example, CCZ201 will become CCZ2001, and CCZ337 will become CCZ3037.

Along with the changes to the existing structure, we are also adding 137 new nodes into the hierarchy to represent various departments, centers, institutes and other organizational structures. There may be additional changes over the coming months as these changes stabilize.

Along with the structure updates, there are also changes to the mapping between the cost centers and the hierarchy. Many cost centers are being moved from the 200+ level to a more specific 3/4/5 level, or moved into a different structure entirely.

While the impact will be minimal, those who use the CCZ will encounter changes to how their structures are coded. Any questions about these changes may be submitted via the Workday Service Desk.
