Workday support for strategic pauses on hiring, purchasing, travel, and more
As announced on March 26, 2025, the university will implement a variety of strategic pauses to hiring, travel, purchasing, and more as a measure to reduce spending. These begin April 1, 2025, and include:
- A strategic pause on non-essential faculty and staff hiring.
- A strategic pause on out-of-cycle salary increases for faculty and staff.
- Pausing non-essential travel and training.
- Increasing review measures for essential purchases and contracts.
- Renegotiating or ending non-essential contracts.
- Reducing other discretionary spending.
New functionality has been implemented in Workday to assist in facilitating these measures. These primarily include additional questionnaires and routing to help ease and streamline the request and review of non-essential hiring, out of cycle salary increases, travel, and purchasing.
A series of reference guides outlining these processes are now available. They are as follows:
- Request an Exemption from the Reclassification and Out-of-cycle Salary Increase Strategic Pause
- Request an Exemption from the Recruitment and Hiring Strategic Pause
- Request or Review an Exemption from the Procurement and Travel Strategic Reduction
