Issue: FICA Exemption Integration
Known Issue: The FICA exemption integration from myWSU uses an automated file that started referencing summer term on May 2. This caused some students to be marked as non-exempt and others to be marked as exempt based on summer FICA exemption rules.
Estimated Time to Resolution: The integration and file were corrected on May 18. Corrective action for hours and taxes will be reflected on the May 25 paycheck.
Details: When a student is enrolled in 6 credit hours or more, they are exempt from paying FICA taxes for the fall/spring semesters, and if they are enrolled in 3 credit hours during the summer, they are exempt. Because Workday referenced the summer file on May 2, any hours entered between May 2 and May 18 for students might be tagged as non-student hours when in fact they should have been student hours (Student Hourly, Federal Work Study, State Work Study). Reclassification of hours will be corrected before payroll runs on May 20, so hours will reflect properly on the May 25 paycheck.
