What are Academic Appointments?

Once WSU transitions to Workday in January 2021, the University will use academic appointments for tracking different academic data.

To fully understand the function of academic appointments, here are some things they are and are not. Academic appointments give the ability to collect information including tenure tracking, academic relationships to departments and programs, as well as employment classifications.

On the flip side, the appointments do not impact compensation and pay. The features do not automatically update job details and are not considered course sections or positions.

Anyone with an academic appointment, including employees, faculty members, and affiliates of WSU, will have an academic tab within their Workday profile. The tab allows the person to view their current appointment.

All of the groups mentioned above can have multiple academic appointments.

With the use of this feature, academic data will be available for only those who need it, and the efficiency of reporting will increase.

Like with any change, these new concepts create a learning curve. The Modernization Team will provide resources to lessen the curve.
