Modernization hosts Grants Roadshow
The Grants group for the Modernization Team hosted roadshows with different WSU areas this July to explain how Workday will handle grants. Below are some of the main changes that will affect post-award grants management.
With Workday, Grant Managers and Principal Investigators (PIs) will have more visibility for award billing, reporting, budget to actuals, and cost share by dashboards and reports.
Another key change is that cost shares will post in real-time for every payroll period.
Likewise, Sponsored Programs Services (SPS) will use automated processes. This will allow SPS to generate invoices and financial reports as well as notify PIs of award setups.
People who work with grants will have certain security roles in Workday: for example, Grant Managers and Grant Principal Investigators.
Post-award grants management will help manage funds for sponsored projects and maintain compliance. A Grant Manager will hold approval authority on all transactions using a grant worktag. With Workday, Grant Managers will have access to grant spend analytics.
In Workday, faculty will certify effort for themselves and Grant Principal Investigators (PIs) will certify effort for non-faculty being paid on their grant. Effort Certification is the review and verification of the amount paid by an award in salaries and wages in relation to the work that was done on the project. An Effort Certification Manager generates effort certifications three times a year in SPS. Effort Certifications are sent for review to an Effort Certification Reviewer’s inbox in Workday. Effort Certifications will then route to a PI or faculty employee for approval or certification.
