Exploring Manager Self-Service

Workday includes a function that provides WSU managers and supervisors the ability to have more independence and flexibility. This function is called Manager Self-Service (MSS). Watch the video or read on to learn more.

MSS will grant managers access to job, position, and pay-related information for direct reports. For a brief overview of MSS you can share with your colleagues, watch this video.

What you can do with MSS

  • Find, interview, and hire candidates and perform various recruiting and onboarding functions
  • Gain access to reports about HR-related analytics
  • View and approve leave balances and requests for time off
  • Receive updates through the Workday inbox and mobile app
  • Assign work schedules
  • Review compensation levels
  • Calculate total employee hours worked, making it a breeze to see when an employee earns overtime
  • Review filled and vacant positions

There are certain personal information items managers and supervisors cannot view. For example, managers cannot view specific employee data such as direct deposit information and benefits enrollment/pension/retirement information.

If you are taking some vacation time, or need to take a sick day, you can delegate tasks to a colleague so work can carry on just as if you were still there.
