TouchNet Marketplace

TouchNet is a modern, PCI compliant point of sale (POS) system. It includes multiple programs to support business needs and an e-commerce Marketplace which allows departments to sell items online or in-person.

This new commerce option has been successful in helping units meet their payment processing needs.  Washington State University has recorded over $19.4 million in revenue through activity via TouchNet stores.  There are approximately 92 U-stores and 50 U-pay sites currently utilized at WSU.

TouchNet subscription costs are centrally funded, which allows departments to modernize their payment intake without the added subscription cost normally incurred by the department, by accepting credit card payments, and creating scalable, self-managed virtual storefronts.

About Marketplace

Expand the sections below to learn more about TouchNet applications, features, and functionality.

TouchNet Marketplace uStore is a custom store hosted in TouchNet that can process payments for sports, reunions, events, conferences, camps, donations, dues, parking, merchandise, and more.

Marketplace can be utilized alongside Touchnet card processing terminals for in-person payments.

uPay provides current WSU web applications with a secure, PCI -compliant payment processing that moves campus-wide payments into one centralized, certified payment system.  uPay collects all the payment information in a secure environment, updates the G/L and returns it to the original app.

Ready Partners are vendors or service providers that have been validated to accept payments through TouchNet’s uCommerce payment software suite, facilitating secure and seamless campus transactions.

TouchNet integrates directly with Workday.  With TouchNet, the revenue is recorded in an Ad Hoc Bank Transaction overnight that automatically posts to Workday. Money is deposited to the bank in this time frame as well. The Touchnet approach of  automatic deposit and recording of the transaction in Workday, eliminates the need to prepare a separate Record Cash Sale thru the Bursar’s office for transactions processed through TouchNet.

Take secure, in-person payments anywhere on or off campus. Marketplace POS uses the latest payment technology to deliver unparalleled capabilities in a user-friendly way, including the ability to accept payments on the go. Payment devices are PCI compliant and P2PE validated.  After usage needs are evaluated, the appropriate recommended device costs approximately $900 with $250 annual encryption fee.  Cost of POS devices and annual encryption fees are funded by units utilizing this option.

Valid Touchnet payment methods include:

  • Credit Card
  • Web Check (ACH)
  • Internal Service Delivery invoiced through Workday

Online Products

Products can be sold online. Each store and product receives a unique URL and QR code, enabling departments to advertise their event using locally produced marketing announcements including URL links to their store or product.

QR codes may be printed and displayed at registration desks, so participants can register online, rather than using a POS device.

PCI Compliance

Learn more about the importance of PCI compliance at WSU and how TouchNet and TouchNet users can fulfill requirements.

TouchNet is the preferred e-commerce platform selected by the Cougar Commerce Committee.  This platform has been thoroughly reviewed and meets the University needs for a secure platform.  If other platforms are requested, they need to be reviewed by the Cougar Commerce Committee prior to contacting the Purchasing Department to begin the contract process. All exceptions need to be justified based on a feature not available with TouchNet.

PCI compliance is critical for all University merchant service activities. Through the central administration of TouchNet, annual PCI compliance assessments are simplified through existing processes and procedures.

Those managing TouchNet stores with POS device setups and who handle credit cards are required to complete these trainings on an annual basis:

  • Annual Cyber Security training
  • Understanding PCI training

For departments not utilizing a POS device and only processing payments online, compliance training is not required at this time.
